Conference Week!

Day 14 of the 31 For 21 Challenge

As the day is trying to close, and Bradley refuses to allow it...I'm taking a few minutes while Eric is trying to get a cranky boy to sleep to complete my challenge for the day.  With the living room right outside his door, some nights I just don't stand a chance of getting him to stay asleep until the whole house is asleep.  Nevermind all the things I needed to do and find once he went to sleep, that will now have to wait until the morning during the mad dash of school prep, oh yeah...I can't wait!  Insert sarcasm font here.  Having been awakened three times from sleep, he might just stay up for the rest of the night, and who can blame him really, I mean I would be angry too.

So while he struggles, I try to refocus on one of my other kiddos, because she is totally due some major kudos, massive props, beau coup atta girls....well, surely you get the idea.

Our ten year old is quite the brilliant one.  She may be having some health problems of her own, but my goodness, that little girl has an incredible mind.  Two years ago she scored a perfect score on her State Standard Math test, her English, though not a perfect score, was no slouch either.

Fast forward to fifth grade.  First week of school the kids took a Math test they weren't supposed to do so great on.  All the concepts are what they are supposed to know at the end of fifth grade.  Sydney missed three questions and got a 93%.  They took their multiplication test, hundred questions in five minutes, she finished hers in two minutes with no errors.  She's leading the class in math, turns out in English too.  We have an accelerated learner and no real accelerated program for her.  Her teacher is really great though, she is pushing her on her way, moving her onto other topics to keep her interested and keep that brain working hard.  I want to make sure that she is given the opportunity to use this gift she's been given, all I have to do is figure out how to push her the right way at home like her teacher is doing at school.  How hard can that be?  Hah!!

If nothing else it is a learning process for all of us as Eric and I try to find the things that will engage their minds.  Finding each "thing" that gets them excited and wanting more. Currently: art, music, sports, and the Space Station really excite them.  But where Madison thinks the Space Station is cool, Sydney sees it as more of a stop over before she delves deeper into space.

I don't really have a clue where Sydney is going to end up in this world, but my guess is that she will be somewhere pretty close to the top of wherever it is she chooses to go.  I see my job as making sure that she has the tools and the stamina to keep working and fighting to get wherever it is she plans on going.  Be that as President, research scientist, or comedian - she'll be amazing at any of them!

Happy October!  As for Awareness and Acceptance, this little girl believes that her brother is the greatest thing in the world to happen to this family and she absolutely adores him.  How much more accepted can one little boy truly be?  I love my kids, and I love that my Sydney is the cream in the Oreos that holds this family together!
